Oak Creek Elk Ranch was started in 1998 by Don and Jane Berg.  Both originally from Iowa farms:  Don an orthopedic surgeon and Jane a registered nurse deeply missed country life.  After a visit to the Iowa State Fair and petting a tame mature Elk Bull the idea was started.

Next came a short drive to Quarry Creek Farms (outside Ft. Madison, Iowa) to Steve Daugherty's elk ranch, where we fell in love with a bottle heifer calf in his yard.  That was the clencher, the heifer calf "Durango" was our 1st elk.  (She now is the dam of one of our "International Champ's Frisco".

Our herd has grown to approximately 250 elk on 2 farms.  Our priority has always been to build a genetically superior herd of cows with proven bulls who possess both velvet and hard horn characteristics.

The core elk on our farm were purchased from Wild -N-Wooly Acres, Orr Lake Elk, Bruce Friedel, Staden Farms, Lynn Stevens and Del Lang.  We also have had great success with our various A-I programs.

Today we are enjoying the results of our dream.  We have been successful in both velvet and hard horn competitions at the international level, having raised 2 of the international champs here on our farm.

Oak Creek Elk Ranch is 8 years CWD monitored and 8 years TB accredited.
